Overview: Vietnam’s Export Performance in Early 2025

In the first two months of 2025, Vietnam’s agricultural export sector witnessed mixed results. While rice, vegetables, and fruits experienced a slight decline, other key products such as wood and forestry products, coffee, seafood, rubber, and cashew nuts recorded strong growth.

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien, promoting deep processing and science-based production will be the foundation to help Vietnam achieve its ambitious agricultural export targets this year.

Key Highlights of Vietnam’s Agricultural Export

  • Decline in crop exports: Export turnover of rice, vegetables, and some fruits decreased slightly due to price fluctuations and changing market demands.

  • Strong growth in industrial crops and seafood: Exports of coffee, rubber, cashew nuts, and seafood increased sharply thanks to stable demand in Europe and Asia.

  • Wood and forestry products on the rise: High-quality processed wood furniture continued to be a bright spot, contributing significantly to the total export value.

Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien: “Science and Technology Drive Sustainable Growth”

Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien emphasized that science, technology, and innovation play a decisive role in maintaining growth momentum. Currently, these factors contribute over 55% of the total added value of the agricultural sector.

“To meet the 2025 targets and ensure long-term sustainability, we must strengthen the application of science and technology across the entire agricultural chain — from seed production, cultivation, and plant protection to livestock disease prevention,” said Mr. Tien.

He also highlighted Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW (December 22, 2024) issued by the Politburo, focusing on breakthroughs in science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation. This resolution sets the direction for modernizing Vietnamese agriculture through digitalization, transparency, and traceability.

To increase the value of agricultural products, it is also necessary to continue to promote investment and deep processing. This is the room for us to promote, realize the export target in 2025 and create a premise for the period 2026-2030.

Outlook: Building the Image of Vietnam’s Agricultural Brand

With a combination of scientific innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable trade practices, Vietnam is on track to strengthen its position as a trusted agricultural exporter in the global market.

By continuing to invest in research, processing, and value chain management, the country’s agricultural sector is expected to achieve both economic growth and environmental sustainability – carrying the essence of Vietnamese agriculture to the world.
